‘Tis The Season To Watch Your Trolley.

'Tis The Season To Watch Your Trolley.

I do sometimes think that I am ill-fated and suffer from being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
On this occasion, for once, I have not got the trolley with the wonky wheel or the broken handle.
A simple trip to the supermarket to pick up the odd little Christmas gifts-you know – a bottle of wine for the computer repairman, a box of biscuits for a kind friend and a big tin of chocolates as a thank you for the hairdressers. (I only have one hairdresser but there are six in the salon and I don’t like to leave anyone out)
Do it every year and know the ones they like, the assorted ones with all the crinkly shiny wrappers.
Horror of horrors! –there is a space in the chocolate aisle where the huge tins of hairdresser chocolates should be!
Never mind, I’ll just have to find something else for them to munch between the perms and the blow dries. I don’t want them to think I have forgotten them and end up with the haircut from hell.
But…..yes…..there at the end of the aisle is a trolley laden to overflowing with at least 40 or more of tins of those chocolates, just the right brand.
Ah ha …… they are restocking the shelves.
As I pass I pick one up and slip it into my trolley with all my other Christmas goodies.
Happy with the thoughts of mission accomplished, I wander on.
Until…
My shoulder is tapped rather sharply.
“Put that back!” A woman screams in my face.
Why is it in a situation like this you always feel guilty, even when you have no idea what you have done?
“Just put that back!!!”
Now I am confused and apologize profusely, still ignorant of some crime I have committed?
“You stole those chocolates from my trolley” She is yelling even louder now and people are beginning to look.
Things become clearer as she reaches into my trolley and clutches the hairdresser chocolates to her bosom.
“These are mine!” The tin is being brandished menacingly under my nose.
Another bout of stammering and sorrying from me as she throws the tin into her over laden chocolate filled trolley and marches away not entirely in a straight line as she is the one with the wonky wheel.
Road Rage, I’ve heard of, but Trolley Tantrums are another case entirely.
Thinking about it now-
She either had a shop and those prized chocolates were for resale, or she has no imagination of what to buy her 40 odd friends, or she is going to eat them herself.
Whichever one of these reasons, I wish her a Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year and I expect my hair will have recovered by Easter.

  1. I missed out a very important sentence…senior moment there…..I thought the trolley laden trolley was for re-stocking …tried to edit but think I have failed……and by the way would never ever take anything from anyone’s trolley.
    I’m not a bad person…honest.

    1. Watergypsy. I guess the moral here is beware there is all kinds of craziness out there. I don’t know what you could apologize for. Regarding editing,it is easy and you can do it. Just hover over blog, then hover over read, and cross to my latest blogs and click, and you will see “edit blogs” and you can click and edit. Make sure you click “submit” at the end of your blog. Remember “submit” because that enters your editing. Blogs are fun and I hope you do more; I enjoyed this one.
