Something important/ Climate March NYC

I need to share my story about my trip to New York City, USA and the global issue of global warming and the environmental issues. I just got a photo of the bus and the group of people that went to New York to do the march to bring attention to the climate talks to be attended by 140 countries later in the month.

I am not a hiker type. I did not know that my knees wouldn’t wobble and collapse after many hours of standing and walking. I was emailed that the bus may have a bathroom, and that there would be porta potties along the way, if we were worried we could wear protection. I did not even consider doing that or asking for an explanation. I like my hair done and my makeup on, but I just decided to undertake this mission because it was important and I wanted to do something important. I would feel so much better knowing that at least I did the march.

I am not bragging. I do so little for the outside world that I am ashamed, but I do want to do more and I want it to be important, really important. The march was important and I had no doubt that it was the best time, most valuable time, that I have spent in many years. I still want to do more and I am working on it, but I do know that I can totally amaze myself if I really do all that I can and let go of fear, and excuses.

So, I am posting the photo of my tour bus a group that made the trip and March on a weekend in September, 2014. I suffered no ill effects, and the whole experience was a huge challenge, but I have a whole new Idea of what is possible for me to do.

We are seniors, but we can totally amaze ourselves if we do all that we can do.

  1. Good for you, Rose. Age doesn’t need to stop us from being involved in worthwhile projects, and this certainly is one!

NYC is my favorite city and I hope you got to see a bit of it.

    Keep the faith and vision!

    1. vonMichael, I appreciate your comment and if people cannot get climate change, can they get water and air pollution? Our leaders use and confuse the voters and are working with big money people.

    2. So glad you see it as I did. I saw NYC that could be seen along the march route and a tiny bit of Brooklyn where I stayed, this trip was completely all about doing a march. I did get to see the scenery along the route to NYC from Louisville KY.

  2. The necessity of climate talks and any change in environmental politics of the US – Gov. have been denied by member of a political party in congress.

So your march was not only good, it was needed and important.
Time for changes runs up. Very good Rose.

  3. Rose, it saddens me that big business can and do influence measures to save our planet. The pursuit of profit at any cost is abhorrent. That is not to say I am against businesses making money just that the unethical way that some go about it is wrong. Events such as the one you went on are a way of highlighting a problem this world faces. Our generation enjoyed the fruits of advancements in living standards at what cost so it is incumbent on us to start making things right for the sake of future generations who if attitudes do not change will inherit a devastated planet. Well done for taking part. Pat

  4. Pat, so well stated. Our health and our life expectancy is going down real fast. I agree with you and you stated it perfectly. The leaders won’t lead in the right direction, it has to come from the people.
