New Private Chat Bar – How To Video Chat

Hi Chatters,

The NEW ‘Private Chat Bar’ (PCB) is now live on Senior Chatters 🙂 Although, on the surface it looks very similar to the old one, it has been completely rewritten, fixed serveral known bugs, and we’ve introduced a few new features as well. Of which, the biggest by far is Video Chat!!!

To get started with Video Chat, follow the steps below:

1) Click on your PCB and click on the username of the member you wish to Video Chat with.  Anybody with a green circle next to their name is active on the site right now and available for chat.  Anybody with a grey semicircle next to their name is logged into the site, but has been inactive for the last 5 minutes.  Once you have clicked on a username click on the cog icon as highlighted below.

2) Then click on the ‘Start A Video Call’ link as highlighted below:

3) A new window will open where you will be able to initiate a Video Call.  The user you are wishing to Video Chat with will be sent a confirmation in their PCB informing them that you wish to Video Chat with them.  They obviously have the option to ignore the call…

Possible Issues Initiating A Video Call

If when you click on the ‘Start a Video Call’ the new window doesn’t initiate it will likely be because your POP-UP Blocker has prevented access.  In this case you must either, grant Senior Chatters access or disable the blocker.  If you are not sure how to do this, the video below should offer some insight:

Also, the Video Chat uses Adobe Flash.  You must have this installed on your computer (most already do) in order for Video Chat to work.  You can click on this link to download Adobe Flash if it isn’t already installed on your machine.

That’s pretty much it.

Happy Video Chatting 🙂

Rob

  1. Hello Rob!
I finally found this information about the video chat feature, but can’t find a PCB bar anywhere on my profile page or dashboard. Perhaps it’s because my connections are not present on site at the time?

Another concern about video chat not being available to me may be connected to the use of Adobe Flash. Are you aware that ALL Apple internet-connected devices no longer can use Adobe Flash?

Given that Apple limitation, then I think it should be posted/communicated to SC Apple users that video chat will not be available with their Apple devices. Just my $.02!

I’m enjoying the site and the wonderful social community that’s here!

Thank you for creating a friendly worthwhile site!

    Best wishes,
    SM

  2. Hello again Rob,
I commented earlier about Adobe Flash not being available for Apple devices. However, I failed to recall that Adobe has entirely discontinued use of Flash Player across ALL platforms/OS:

    https://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/end-of-life.html

Apple has long recommended and used HTML5 within Safari.

Does SC plan to adopt HTML5, and/or does the SC video chat no longer work for anyone?

Your promotional information for the site prominently advertises the video chat feature. I think you should change that ASAP if video chat is not available or will not be added soon.

Just offering some critically important feedback that I think affects consumer decisions. I registered with a life subscription, partly because of the video chat feature being included.

Hope you can resolve these issues. If I’m mistaken about Adobe Flash affecting this site’s video chat, I apologize in advance.

    Best wishes,
    SM
