Coursera sera

I wonder if the title is descriptive and enticing enough. Probably not, it’s just a curious assembly of letters; anyway, whatever will be will be.
I found out about Coursera while I was listening to a podcast; I had written the web address in my notebook, where I keep important information, figuring I’d investigate later. Well later turned out to be 2 years. I happened to hear about that website again last month. This time I did look into it.
Coursera is a for-profit educational technology company. My first course was about ” Introduction to Sustainable Development “. Sustainable development is a central concept for our age. It is both a way of understanding the world and a method for solving global problems. I didn’t have to pay anything for this course as I’m not looking for any certificates of achievement. I just want to be in the know.
As of October 2014, Coursera has 9.9 million users in 839 courses from 114 institutions. There’s something for everyone, or just about.

I thought I would share one of my passions; learning.

  1. I have googled this up and sounds interesting ,but I wonder if they pester you with spam after you join up ?
Are you doing any of their courses at the moment David ?
I must admit I do have a passion for learning too!
I have googled some of their courses and they seem wordy and kind of hard., but I guess there would be some others not that hard ,I will keep looking ,thank you so much for sharing this !

    1. You’re welcome nmod.
I don’t have spam, except for their recommendations for other courses, and them wanting to issue certificates; after all that’s how they generate revenue. But it’s not daily. On a previous course I was subscribed in the forums and it would update quite regularly. I did eventually stop subscribing to forums.
At the present I have 2 courses, Creative Problem Solving, and Learning How To Learn. There is some literature to read and also videos and a couple of assignments.
Some courses reoccur at regular intervals, so if you’re late for a course, the same course will be available at a later date.

    1. You’re welcome KayBee. I am taking a course on Creative Problem Solving. The assignments are all based on Doing Something Different (DSD’s). I thought I’d practice on here.
